At lease 11 die in Burkina Faso gold mine attack

Eleven people have been killed in an attack on a gold mine in northern Burkina Faso, two days after a similar raid in the same area, local sources said on Sunday.

“Armed unidentified individuals on Saturday carried out an attack on the gold mining site of Baliata,” a resident of the region told AFP.

Fourteen people were killed Thursday in a similar raid on a gold mining site in the region’s Seytenga.

Security in Burkina Faso has worsened since 2015, with terrorist attacks killing more than 1,000 people and displacing over one million others in the west African nation.
