SANY’s SET150S Hybrid Mining Truck Makes West Africa Debut with GMC

Accra, Ghana – October 3, 2025 – Chinese equipment giant SANY has delivered its first fleet of SET150S hybrid mining trucks to Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), marking the model’s entry into the West African market. The deal underscores SANY’s growing role in supporting mining operations with sustainable, high-efficiency haulage solutions.

GMC’s Expanding Operations

GMC, Ghana’s sole manganese producer and exporter, has been operating for more than a century at its Nsuta concession in the Western Region. Covering 170 km², less than 3% of the concession has been mined, leaving vast reserves untapped. The company is majority-owned by Consolidated Minerals Africa Ltd (90%), with the Government of Ghana holding a 10% free carried interest.

Nsuta’s ore is prized for its high manganese-to-iron ratio and low impurities, making it ideal for alloy and manganese metal production. To meet its 8 Mt/y production target, GMC has turned to SANY’s hybrid fleet to boost efficiency and reliability.

Ahead of Schedule Delivery

Despite seasonal rains and logistical challenges, SANY’s engineering teams completed the first batch of eight trucks 15 days ahead of schedule. Impressed by the performance and delivery speed, GMC immediately placed an order for an additional eight units.

Technology and Performance

The SET150S is designed for demanding mining conditions. Its multi-power hybrid system—featuring two Weichai WP17 engines and a 148 kWh battery—delivers 1,400 kW of output, around 15% higher than comparable models. The truck’s intelligent energy management system optimises power use, enables regenerative braking, and ensures engines operate at peak efficiency.

After a month of operation in Ghana, the trucks demonstrated fuel savings of over 14%, cutting costs while maintaining strong uphill haulage performance.

Global Expansion

Since its launch in 2022, the SET150S has been deployed in more than 10 countries, including Uzbekistan and Peru. With its entry into Ghana, SANY strengthens its global reputation for fuel economy, durability, and service support.

SANY says the rollout of the SET150S and its larger sibling, the SET240S, reflects its commitment to helping the mining industry transition toward low-carbon, high-efficiency operations
