FUCHS Expands African Operations Through Strategic Investments in Five Markets

Global lubricants manufacturer FUCHS Group is expanding its African operations through a series of strategic investments aimed at strengthening its presence in Southern and East Africa and bringing its products and technical services closer to customers.

The company has signed agreements to acquire full ownership of its former joint venture operations in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique, giving it 100% control of the businesses. In East Africa, FUCHS has established a controlling interest in a new joint venture in Kenya and increased its shareholding to a controlling stake in its existing Tanzanian joint venture.

The transactions are expected to be completed in early 2027.

The expansion builds on FUCHS’ established manufacturing and commercial operations in South Africa, which serve as a regional hub for production, technical expertise and customer support across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Paul Deppe, FUCHS Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the investments would strengthen the company’s ability to serve customers across the region.

“Through our expanded footprint, we aim to be closer to our customers, respond more rapidly to local market needs, and leverage our global technology leadership to support industrial growth throughout Africa,” he said.

Lubricants demand drives regional expansion

FUCHS sees Africa as a significant long-term growth opportunity for the lubricants industry. Increasing urbanisation, industrial development, infrastructure investment, expanding mining operations, manufacturing growth and rising vehicle ownership are driving demand for high-performance lubricants and specialised products.

Dr Ralph Rheinboldt, FUCHS Executive Board Member responsible for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the company’s increased investment reflects its confidence in the continent’s economic potential.

He added that strengthening its operations across Southern and East Africa would allow FUCHS to provide locally relevant solutions, technical expertise and products while supporting industrial development in the markets it serves.

The businesses included in the transactions employ approximately 170 people and currently generate annual sales of around €50 million.
