Chinese Solar Tech Takes Center Stage at Nairobi Energy Expo

The 12th Power and Energy Africa 2025 expo kicked off in Nairobi on Thursday, drawing attention to innovative Chinese solar products. Running through Saturday, the event has highlighted advanced solutions tailored to Africa’s renewable energy needs.

Among those impressed was solar entrepreneur Elijah Kairu, who praised the efficiency of Chinese solar water heaters, particularly useful in Kenya’s cooler mountain regions. He visited the booth of Jiangsu Micoe Solar Energy Company, known for products designed to perform in cold climates with limited sunlight. Their technology retains heat longer, minimizing reliance on electric or gas heating.

The event welcomed over 150 exhibitors from more than 25 nations, with a strong focus on renewable energy solutions. Attendees included Kenyan farmer Ismail Boru, who hopes to replace costly diesel irrigation pumps with solar alternatives from Zhejiang Fullwill Electric Company—offering better control over scarce water resources in arid areas.

Beebee Jump Technology also attracted crowds with its pay-as-you-go compact home solar kits, seen as game-changers for lower-income rural households. According to Wellington Bungei, a distributor from Baringo County, such technology lowers financial barriers for off-grid communities.

Duncan Njagi of Expo Group noted that Chinese suppliers continue to resonate with African consumers by delivering practical and affordable solutions tailored to the continent’s energy challenges.
