Oriole Resources Moves Closer to Gold Mining Licence in Cameroon
Yaoundé – Oriole Resources has cleared a major hurdle in its bid to establish gold mining operations in Cameroon, after the Ministry of Environment approved its environmental and social impact assessment for the Bibemi project. The approval paves the way for final licensing discussions with the Ministry of Mines, marking a decisive step toward production in the country’s underdeveloped gold sector.
The Bibemi project, located in northern Cameroon, has been the focus of Oriole’s exploration efforts for several years. The company has reported promising drill results, with mineralization suggesting commercial-scale potential. Officials say the licence, once granted, will not only validate Oriole’s investment but also signal Cameroon’s readiness to attract new entrants into its mining industry.
Cameroon’s government has emphasized the importance of diversifying its mineral portfolio beyond artisanal operations, with gold seen as a catalyst for job creation and regional development. Oriole executives said the licence would allow them to transition from exploration to production, bringing international capital and technical expertise to the country.
Analysts note that Cameroon’s mining reforms, including streamlined licensing and environmental oversight, are designed to reassure investors while ensuring communities benefit from resource development. If successful, Bibemi could become a model for responsible gold mining in Central Africa.
