SMM and ZCCM-IH Strengthen Collaboration to Advance Zambia’s Copper Industry Value Chain

SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM) has deepened engagement with ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH) to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at strengthening Zambia’s copper industry and improving value chain development.

During a recent visit to ZCCM-IH, SMM representatives met with company analysts to discuss key aspects of global copper pricing, including the methodology behind SMM’s copper and copper concentrate price indices. The discussions focused on how these benchmarks influence international market pricing and their relevance for Zambia’s copper trade and mining investment decisions.

Both parties also examined ZCCM-IH’s mining asset portfolio, including resource reserves, operational performance and future production capacity. The engagement provided a platform to assess supply-demand dynamics, cost structures and long-term trends shaping the copper sector in Zambia.

The dialogue highlighted opportunities for closer cooperation in market intelligence, data sharing and joint analysis of global copper trends, including potential collaboration on mining resources outside China. The exchange is expected to support more informed decision-making across the copper value chain and enhance Zambia’s positioning in global metals markets.

ZCCM-IH plays a strategic role in Zambia’s mining and energy sectors, with investments spanning copper, gold, manganese, limestone and energy assets. The company’s long-term strategy focuses on expanding its mining portfolio, diversifying revenue streams and improving operational efficiency to maximise shareholder value.

Under its 2020–2026 strategic plan, ZCCM-IH is prioritising deeper participation in the mining sector, innovation in revenue generation and stronger financial and operational management.
