Camalco Turns to Gulfcam to Kickstart Bauxite Exports from Cameroon

CAMEROON – Canyon Resources’ Cameroonian subsidiary, Camalco, has partnered with Gulfcam to facilitate the transportation of bauxite from the flagship Minim-Martap Bauxite Project, marking a critical step toward the launch of Cameroon’s newest large-scale mining export operation.

The agreement will see Gulfcam handle the movement of bauxite between the ports of Douala and Kribi under an interim logistics arrangement designed to enable exports before dedicated mining infrastructure is fully operational.

Transitional Solution to Accelerate Exports

The logistics partnership is viewed as a temporary but strategically important measure that will allow Camalco to begin commercial shipments while longer-term transport and export facilities are developed.

The Minim-Martap project, located in Cameroon’s Adamawa Region, is regarded as one of Africa’s most promising undeveloped bauxite deposits. The project contains high-grade ore reserves and is expected to strengthen Cameroon’s position in the global bauxite market, which is dominated by producers such as Guinea, Australia and Brazil.

By leveraging existing port infrastructure and maritime transport services, Camalco aims to accelerate the project’s transition from development to production and begin generating export revenues.

Strategic Importance for Cameroon

The launch of bauxite exports from Minim-Martap is expected to diversify Cameroon’s mining sector, which has historically relied on commodities such as oil, timber and gold.

Government officials have identified mining as a key pillar of economic diversification, with major investments planned in mineral extraction, logistics infrastructure and industrial development.

The project is also expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate local supplier industries and increase foreign exchange earnings through mineral exports.

Growing Global Demand

Bauxite is the primary raw material used in aluminium production, a metal that is increasingly in demand due to its use in construction, transportation, packaging, renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles.

As global demand for aluminium continues to rise, projects such as Minim-Martap are attracting growing investor interest as countries seek secure and diversified sources of supply.

For Canyon Resources, the commencement of exports would represent a major milestone in transforming the company from a project developer into a mineral producer and exporter.

Industry observers view the Gulfcam agreement as a practical solution that could help shorten the timeline to first exports while Cameroon continues to expand its mining and logistics capabilities.
