Royal Tyres and Ascenso Partner to Expand Mining Tyre Market In Southern Africa

South Africa’s Royal Tyres has partnered with India-based tyre manufacturer Ascenso to expand access to radial off-the-road (OTR) tyres for mining and industrial customers across Southern Africa.

The strategic partnership combines Royal Tyres’ 87 years of experience and established distribution network in the region with Ascenso’s international tyre manufacturing, engineering and product development capabilities. The companies will launch Ascenso’s new range of large and ultra-large all-steel radial OTR tyres ahead of Electra Mining Africa 2026.

Ascenso, founded in 2019 by the Mahansaria Group, has established a global presence in the agriculture, forestry and construction tyre markets, with products sold in more than 100 countries. The company is now expanding into the high-performance mining tyre segment, targeting both underground and surface mining operations.

The expansion is supported by an investment of more than US$100 million and a new manufacturing facility in India. The companies say the investment will strengthen Ascenso’s ability to supply the global OTR and mining markets with tyres designed for demanding operating conditions.

For Southern African mining companies, the partnership is expected to provide greater access to international tyre technology while retaining the benefit of local technical knowledge and customer support. Royal Tyres’ understanding of regional mining conditions will complement Ascenso’s global engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

The collaboration comes as mining operators across Southern Africa continue to seek reliable equipment and tyre solutions capable of handling demanding conditions while supporting operational efficiency. The new OTR range will be showcased at Electra Mining Africa 2026, taking place from September 7 to 11 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec.

The partnership strengthens the connection between international tyre manufacturers and Southern Africa’s mining industry, while creating a platform for further growth in the region’s specialised mining tyre market.
