Galiano Gold COO Josephat Zvaipa has died after contracting Covid-19.

Galiano is the operator and manager of the Asanko mine, in Ghana, which it jointly owns with South Africa-based major Gold Fields.

“The entire Galiano Gold and Asanko Gold Ghana family mourns the loss and we extend our deepest sympathies to Joe’s family,” the TSX- and NYSE-listed company says.

Zvaipa joined the group in 2014 and had been MD of Asanko Gold Ghana from 2015 to mid-2019, during the time that the Asanko gold mine was financed, built and commissioned.

He moved to Johannesburg to assume the role of COO of Galiano Gold in 2019.

“His booming voice, passion and larger than life personality will be sorely missed,” the company says.
